Fundamental aspects of everyone’s life has changed over the course of the past 18 months; how we work, how we learn, how we interact with friends and family. It could be argued that the dining table is the piece of furniture which has experienced the most radical change in use since March 2020. When designing a table it allowed me to re-think eating, studying, socializing and use the potential for all these activities to design a dining table that works for me, friends, and my roommates right now. I worked with a group of three people, and together we built a table that could be placed outside and sit over six people. As a team we worked on construction drawing, iteration processes, and construction techniques. We used a CNC machine to cut the pieces, and then we built the table together. The table charrette project was a testament to working with a team of designers, and through this process I learned how to communicate and dedicate time to the design process with others as well as learning new construction techniques.
